The Quest to Climb the Highest Peak on All Seven Continents

The quest to climb the highest peak on all seven continents is every mountain climber’s dream. Bennett Hall writes  an engaging article in the Albany Democrat Herald about a North Albany man’s quest to reach the peak of Mt Everest. After Mark Luscher accomplishes that feat, he will be one of less than 100 known people to climb the highest peak on all seven continents.

The thing that makes Mr. Luschers effort so intriguing is an unlikely foe: politics. With the upcoming Beijing Olympics, China plans to have Chinese climbers take the Olympic torch to the top of Mt. Everest. In an effort to prevent a repeat of protests that have put considerable pressure on the Chinese Government, the Chinese are lobbying to close both sides of the mountain to climbers.
