Bighorn Peak & Mind’s Eye

By admin | December 3rd, 2009

Submitted by Backcountry Explorer
Where: Zion National Park, Utah
When: November 2009
Who: DB

DB and I recently picked our way up two new peaks (both minor) in Zion. I dubbed a very minor one Mind’s Eye, for the trippy, funky and ultra-cool formation I found in the summit block. The other was so dubbed for the 24 [...]

Most Excellent Tabeau Peak!

By admin | December 3rd, 2009

Submitted by Backcountry Explorer

Where: Southwestern Utah, near Mesquite, Nevada
When: November 2009
Who: Solo

Where: near Zion National Park, Utah
When: November 2009
Who: DB

Where: near Apex, Nevada
When: November 2009
Who: DB

As the mood hit us, DB and I had been ticking off the obscure peaks near Apex. In addition to the unnamed peaks (some of which are interesting), we had our eyes set on some of the named benchmark peaks.

Where: Zion National Park, Utah
When: November 2009
Who: Sarah & Dominic Meiser, Dwight Sunwall and Matthew Holliman

After a failed attempt on this striking and obscure mountain with Bo Beck several years earlier, I returned with Dwight, Sarah, Dominic and Matthew and we ticked this puppy off from the other side. Surprisingly, the [...]
